In this prequel I will be reviewing the first (second season depending on how you call seasons) in the Yuuki Yuuna franchise. If you are a fan of magical girls and drama then this could be worth a look as this series has got all the stuff to cater for such fans. Be warned though there are some dark moments particularly at the end which can be a tad depressive. Episodes: 12 Original airing dates: 17th October 2014 – 26th December 2021 Studio: Studio Gokumi Genre: Dark magical girl, drama, comedy Prequel: Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero: The Washio Sumi Chapter Sequels: Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero: The Hero Chapter, Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero: Mankai Chapter Recommended audience: Fans of the magical girl genre and those who like slice-of-life and yuri...
In this prequel I will be delving into Jobless Reincarnation which was one of the better anime series of the winter 2021 season. It is one I would recommend for its good storytelling. Be warned thought that our main man Rudeus Greyrat is a bit of a perv so there will be ecchi scenes littered throughout this one. Even if you are not a fan of such things though don't let that deter you from watching this! Episodes: 11 Original airing dates: 11th January 2021 – 22nd March 2021 Studio: Studio Bind Genre: Isekai, drama, ecchi Sequel: Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 Recommended audience: monsta recommendation! Fans of fantasy and drama will like this. Background/synopsis: Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation otherwise known...
Demon Slayer: Entertainment District Arc Synopsis: In this part of the demon slayer the trio of Tanjirou, Zenitsu and Inosuke join the sound Hashira (elite slayer) Tengen Uzui on a mission to hunt down a powerful demon downtown. Trailer: Thoughts: Seeing as this is the third season it is recommended you watch the previous seasons (or at minimum the movie) as jumping into this might not make a whole lot of sense considering a big chunk of the opening one-hour special focuses on the ramifications of Rengoku’s death. Now personally, I found most of this long episode to be a slog with the first half being particular testing. The first half largely focussed on the final events of the movie/train arc and as such I felt nothing of...
Episodes: 7 Original airing dates: 10th October 2021 – 28th November 2021 Studio: ufotable Genre: Supernatural/action Prequel: Demon Slayer Alternative version: Demon Slayer Infinity Train movie Sequel: Demon Slayer: Entertainment District Arc Recommended audience: Action lovers and those who have not seen the Demon Slayer movie Background/synopsis: Demon Slayer Infinity Train arc also going by the name Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen is a shounen/action series that was released in the autumn 2021. It is the sequel of the original Demon Slayer series and is an adaptation of the highly successful Demon Slayer Infinity Train movie. In this latest prequel watch I will be reviewing one of the most anticipated series of the autumn 2021 season 86. Whilst the series was not a stunner by any stretch of the imagination it does hold enough potential that if its weaknesses are addressed then this could be really strong series. Part 2 is still not done but from what I have seen thus far (seven episodes) it is a noticeable improvement as many of the issues I had with this season are addressed there making this a more worthwhile watch seeing as there is good stuff to follow from here. Episodes: 11 Original airing dates: 11th April 11, 2021 – 20th June 2021 Studio: A-1 Pictures Genre: Supernatural/fantasy Sequel: 86 Part 2 Recommended audience: Sci-fi/mecha/actions lovers...
Jobless reincarnation takes the biscuit in this lot. If you are a fan of yaoi though then the decision will be more difficult and likely a tossup between Jobless and Tricornered Window. For non-fans of the Boy Love genre the series may still prove to be enjoyable as the mystery/horror element is strong but you just have to ask yourself what your tolerance is for not just BL and coercive relationships. If you can get over those hurdles then you will likely enjoy the series. As for the vampire cosmonaut, it is remains a solid fixture but for those expecting a heavy plot driven series, hold your horses as episodes three and four are primarily character driven affairs. Things do look like the story will pick up soon so don't give up on the...
Strong showings in this lot but the one that edges it for me is Mieruko-chan! This series is becoming one of the hotter shows of the autumn season and I am not saying this because of the fanservice! XD I am generally leery of horror/comedy but this one manages to nail the balance quite brilliantly. A monsta pick this series is. ;) 86 continues on its strong start and while the third episode was good the fourth "cooldown" episode was a bit of a let down however this reflective episode did have a lot of ominous signs suggesting we are onto something big very soon. Meanwhile Yuuki Yuuna whilst not as good as the first two has improved with its greater action and tension which is all adding up to some big climax that will come soon...
Two heavy hitters this time around especially if you never saw the Demon Slayer movie. Ranking of Kings otherwise known as Ousama Ranking is a new release from Wit Studio that has many gushing over. Whilst the season premier and second episode are very solid and hold a lot of promise at this point it is a little to early to start throwing the accolades. But, and this a big but, it could turn into something very special... Intriguing is the best way to describe it as of now. As for Demon Slayer Mugen arc, the opening episode is unique so for movie watchers or newcomers it is a recommended watch. If you like playing games like where's Wally? Then movie goers could bask in spotting the differences between this anime and the movie. For...
In this preliminary review I will give you my take on the first two episodes of each series with those being My Senpai is Annoying and Taishou Otome Otogibanashi. Both shows are similar in nature as they can be classed as romantic/comedy although Taishou is the more serious of the two plus it is a period piece set 100 years ago. Out of the two I would prefer My Senpai is Annoying but take my comments watch the trailer and decide which series is best for you! No right or wrong answers here! My Senpai is Annoying! Just by looking at the trailers you can see Futaba has a very loli like appearance but this point is really emphasised in the opening scene when she gets ready for work. I didn’t expect that. We see her co-workers and they...
Billed as the successor to Death Note and Bakuman; Platinum End certainly had a heap of expectation attached to it. The fact that I had heard less than promising things about the manga meant I was a little leery starting this but thankfully the show was better than what I was expecting. Lots of angst as to be expected but the action was also good making it top the trio I present today. That doesn't mean Sakugun and Saihate no Paladin were rubbish series. Far from it as while Sakugun did deliver entertainment on a similar level to Paladin this time around I feel the slow, yet measured approach in terms of storytelling makes me think that there is more potential in Saihate no Paladin over the long haul... Platinum End This reminds me...
Next three also has heavier hitters with perhaps one of the most anticipated releases with Komi Can't Communicate. Loads of people were itching for this to come out but I don't know, I think it had a problem communicating with me as the jokes fell flat. Fortunately Takt Ops proved to be a more entertaining series with not just its action but its road trip type vibe. Definitely one to check out. Finally we got another isekai series. I know, I know! We are flooded with series from this genre but there is a hidden sauce that keeps the punters coming from more. Well it is not really a secret perhaps open secret?! Ok, I will get the point and spill the beans. The sauce to this anime is the cute and hawt girls which come out in force! If that...
This trio has quite a range! We start off with the another big hitter in Jobless Reincarnation. I am sure lots of people will dive into that but the other series are a unique mix. This season holds yet another vampire series in the shape of Laika who is a lady vampire who wants to be the first being sent into outer space! It is quite the twist to the classic space race we all remember. It is not USA vs USSR though no it is UZSR vs UK! Finally for those yaoi lovers out there we got boy on boy action in the mystery (horror?) tricornered window. If you like bishies then you be sure to give this a crack! Ahh the guys crack not mine that is... ;) Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (Part 2) The isekai genre maybe oversaturated and on...
In this first part of the autumn early review series I will be looking at the highly anticipated 86 as well as the comedy/horror that is Mierko-chan. We will then tee off with the latest season of Yuuki Yuuna which will be for those who like their magical girls to have a tinge of darkness. Check out my thoughts and see if any any of this lot take your fancy! If nothing sounds too appealing then not to worry there are plenty of other reviews to come. ;) 86 Part 2 The second season 86 kicks off right where the first ended so you gotta watch the first piece to get a clue what is going on here. If that is too much the lowdown for 86 is that the anime tells the story about the conflict between the Republic of Magonlia and the Gilead...
Searching for a good anime series can be a difficult thing to do especially when you are busy or otherwise strapped for time. That is why I have complied this list to show what is hot and what is not so you don't have to faff around watching rubbish and only strike for the series that are worth watching! To make things easier, I have ranked all the anime titles I have seen this season from best to worst hoping that one (or more) of these series will take your fancy! There are some series which are still currently on-going and whilst it is unlikely they will top the list, they are still worthy watches. The first one I am keeping an eye out is The Aquatope on White Sand which is an uplifting slice-of-life anime featuring two girls as...
Review: Demon Slayer Movie: Infinity Train also known as Kimetsu no Yaiba Movie: Mugen Ressha-hen is a shounen/action series featuring demons. Infinity Train was a runaway commercial success gaining numerous records such as the highest ever grossing anime of all time plus being the highest grossing film in 2020. This movie is a sequel to the highly popular Demon Slayer anime series; if you wish to read the review for that series, please click the link below: Season one: Demon Slayer Story/characters Infinity Train starts immediately where the series left off as Tanjirou Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Inosuke Hashibira plus Nezuko Kamado all board the infinity train. They are assigned the mission of investigating the various...
Review: The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace also known as Heion Sedai no Idaten-tachi is an action/fantasy series featuring demons that initially aired in the summer 2021 season. Idaten Deities tells the story of a world with demons and godlike beings called Idaten that fight for supremacy. The backstory for this show is that 800 years ago the human race was on the brink of extinction as they were hunted down by demons. Praying to the gods, the humans got salvation with the summoning of Idaten who struck down the demons and then sealed the remaining survivors in another dimension. The story then pans out to the present where the Idatens of that time only know peace. Story/characters The premise sounds something typical of a shounen...
For ecchi lovers there is a separate more ecchi review thread that contains more raunchy pictures. If you are interested check out the ecchi section of FTV! Review: Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory otherwise known as Megami-ryou no Ryoubo-kun is an ecchi/comedy romance series that first aired in the summer 2021 season. The backstory for Mother of the Goddess Dormitory is that Koushi Nagumo’s life has taken a massive turn for the worse. Spotted in the streets by the eccentric Minera Wachi, she offers him shelter in her home; the Goddess Dormitory. It is at the dorm when Minera learns of his plight and offers him a place to stay...
Review: Re-Main is a sports/drama anime series that came out in the summer 2021 season. The series centres on Minato Kiyomizu who is a star player in his school’s water polo team. On the day of his major triumph, he gets involved in a major car crash that leaves him in a coma for 203 days. After finally awakening it becomes quickly apparent, he has suffered from amnesia and cannot remember any events before his accident. Trying to get his life back on track through a gruelling rehabilitation process it is not long before Minato is thrust back into the water polo world! Story/characters When hearing this plot, one may feel a sense of apprehension about the prospect of watching yet another anime that applies the common amnesia trope to...
Review: Night Head 2041 is a psychological dystopian sci-fi series and is a reboot of the Night Head Genesis anime which released way back in 2006. If you are curious to learn more about that show then read the review on the link below: Prequel: Night Head Genesis Despite both series sharing similar titles, Night Head 2041 is sufficiently different from its predecessor that watching Night Head Genesis is not required viewing in enjoying or even enhancing your experience of Night Head 2041 in any significant manner. It is a newbie friendly series so you need not worry about watching Night Head Genesis to gain any extra insights. You will gain nothing by doing so as the two series tell a fundamentally different tale as while Night Head...
Review: Sonny Boy is a mystery/supernatural series which first aired in the summer 2021. Reviewing this show is actually quite tricky as this is a series that has proved divisive in the anime community. On the one hand there are clear fans who love the symbolism and vibrant imagery that permeates this series. On the opposite end there are others who believe this show is more a case of style over substance. Personally, I lean but I am not in complete agreement, with the latter but wanted to put this disclaimer out so you as the reader know my stance from the get go. What I can say is that to get the most from Sonny Boy it is recommended you watch this series slowly and it may even actually pay to watch an episode multiple times as it...
