@Maiku_Ando A slow cooker is great, essentially it's a decent sized pot with a lid, you throw food in, set on high or low, come back later, foods ready and you just need to serve. There are some fancy slow cookers that allow you to fry and all sorts. I work shifts that are literally all over the place, so getting the chance to cook properly is impossible add in to the fact that my partner things fancy dining is a chicken goujon since she doesn't eat much else I pretty much cook for myself. Lately I've been asking my grandad for his recipes on Jamaican Curried Goat, Jerk Chicken and Jamaican Brown Stew and adapting them for the slow cooker, turned out an absolute treat so my freezer is full of nuggets and Jamaican food now.

@warita200 I've always liked cooking, my Dad made sure growing up that me and my brother could always cook something. So I enjoy it, but I never have the time, plus my girlfriend doesn't like anything that isn't processed so that doesn't help. One of my dreams right now is to have a dinner party with some friends and jusr get to cook for them. Gardening however isn't something I took to until I moved in with my partner, I had house plants when I lived with my parents but they always seemed to die. Then for some reason by Nan brought me lots of gardening stuff when I moved in with my partner and tried it and just took to it. Unfortunately where I'm living now doesnt have a garden with a lawn or anything like that so all my plants atm are potted. I'm looking at getting a small green house next year though so I can grow some veg.

@Maiku_Ando Nah leave me retired, I'll probably still post but I feel I've had my time so I'm happy like this. But I'll try posting more in the manga section, but honestly that place has always been rather dead, I spent a good chunk of time tyring to post their originally but even when this place was busy it was still dead there apart from Bleach and Naruto threads. But I'll give it ago.

@monsta666 I thought you were digitally dead, I went to MAL since I assumed you and Jun both didn't come here anymore so I can start chatting to you both and your MAL accounts hadn't been used in awhile. So got really bummed out, especially since wjen we last chatted lots of stuff has happened like my team getting Juns teams manager who then lead us to our first league title in forever while his team have barely recovered and Arsenal and well..... Arsenal.

As for what I'm doing, host a bbq for my parents yesterday, was the first time I'd been able to have them around since before my birthday in December last year. I've got my first Covid Jab today, terrified of needles so that will be fun.

Thanks for explaining it, I think this is basically what Youtube has at the moment, every new upload is checked for any content matches and is flagged right away. That doesn't really apply to us here, firstly we are too small, and secondly, we don't deal with much user content, we do have the gallery, and it can support uploads of videos which could infringe copyright but we follow the DMCA rules and work on the basis if anyone makes a complaint we remove it.

The site is currently hosted in the US and falls under the US copyright laws. My intention is to keep the site in line with the DMCA Safe Harbour provision, which basically means we can't be held liable for user content provided we remove anything that is subject to a DMCA notice. Although it is certainly annoying, especially when over enthusiastic law firms send notices for a poster in the background of screen capture licensed to Crunchyroll, but we still follow them. And that is why the streaming service we had was shutdown, on a technical level it most likely could be updated to work with the current site, but I deemed it wasn't worth it given the complaints from a certain law firm who likes to target us. The reality is, we are Fansub TV, people will assume piracy first and not even bother to look further, even if it is simple links to Crunchyroll.
I actually believe, that the fact the streaming service is gone is probably the reason why FTV died. I came to FTV for the streaming service it provided and stayed, because I liked the forums.

It might be an idea to revive the streaming in some shape or form, though whether FTV will benefit from that is unclear. Crunchyroll and gogoanime are well established and offer this service for years now.

I never got into MAL community much even though I tried to due to the webzine. It is just not my thing so I fell off the cliff from there. I do actually use MAL to check out what is out or get basic info on anime series but I don't actually log into my account. I am online and have a digital presence but it just a question of finding me. I ALWAYS use the handle of monsta666 wherever I go so if ye search then ye shall probably find the sites monsta's takes a gander to. In any case I am on Whatsapp so if you are interested I can give my number via pm and we speak there. I always use that and I am online a lot especially since Covid started as have largely been working from home.

Good luck on the jab, hope you don't get too bad side-effects with that.

It's nice seeing some familiar faces again, haven't seen you around forever Hia and Warita, I hope you are doing well. What shot did you get Hia? I got Johnson and Johnson the other day. I'm happy I got this over with cause I'm in a vulnerable group, though being totally out of things for two days was no fun. As for Klopp, at least he went to a good club and revived that one as well. It was a heavy and painful lose for us not gonna lie but at least we hang in there. Arsenal on the other hand...

Also god knows how much money and time have to be invested to get on a similar level such as crunchyroll. Another driving point for ftv was the forums, but I think the age of forums is sadly over since everyone uses social media like facebook, twitter etc. :(

Yeah....especially during night when I try to sleep and you and chuuko go mad with some stuff and I'm like god dammnit guys I try to sleep.

As for what I'm doing, I'm looking up some stuff on ftv since Ibi lured me into it.

Sorry for my absence, got a little busy and also had my vaccine unexpectedly, basically took my farther for his second shot and they had no record of his appointment so added it on the spot, and then added me in as well so that was nice. Not strictly meant to have AstraZenica due to the age limit they put on it. First night I felt like crap, but was fine by the following night.

@Hiasubi My mother does her slow cooking in a large ceramic dish in the oven, used to be this big Turkish pot, but that sadly broke some time ago. Maybe we should look into getting one like yours.

@warita200 I don't know if we can revive any of the streaming, simply by having 'Fansub' near it gets red flags for the law firms, we actually got more take down requests from the legal Crunchyroll streaming than we used to get on the original system.

@JunMisugi
Crunchyroll has to pay licensing fees for all the animes and likely that is based on number of people who watch it and per region. Although I'd certainly love to operate a streaming service with our own licenses, no company on earth is going to touch us while we have 'Fansub' in the name, and that is if we even had the kinda of money needed for that type of enterprise, which I certainly don't.

As for what I am doing, catching up on FTV, it was a nice surprise to come back and actually have to look for this thread as for the first time in a long time, it has been pushed off the recent thread list :D. Amazing honestly, so well done everyone.

@Maiku_Ando, I see. So whar kind of a deal does gogoanime have? Do you think they pay for licences just like crunchyroll?

I think they are the no deal, full on piracy model. The use of random upload services, the claim they will 'upload' animes upon request, total lack of DMCA, copyright or any contact info, multiple very similar obscure domain names and using cloudflare all point to that. I'm frankly amazed how they are still in operation, I can only guess they are hosted and located in a country where copyright is not enforced.

This, I've been slowly watching anime again properly for the first time in years. Took my 5 minutes after being away for me to come across gogoanime and 9anime, really don't think either of them are legit. Honestly I'm curious if during Fansubs hey day if our streams were properly licensed or it was a similar deal to the aforementioned.

@Maiku_Ando at least you didn't have any bad side effects at least.

When I was operating the streaming service on MATV (/stream/ in the url) that was Crunchyroll providing the service, which of course they are licensed to do for all their animes, the way I did it was to basically direct the viewer to Crunchyroll's viewing page, so their advertising etc was visible and we didn't take any credit for it. During FTV's heyday and before I took ownership, it was Fansubs and these were somewhat tolerated back then, but were not licensed.

FOOTBALL'S COMING HOME! IT'S COMING HOME! IT'S COMING HOME! IT'S COMING!!!

THREE LIONS ON A SHIRT!

If anyone can't work out what happened... I was just watching England reach the first final of a major tournament since 1966.

It was a naked Primula pic that baited you to revive your account right? XD

Welcome back Primula

No comment but since i got it randomly i decided to report it and force myself to log back in but im always willing to log back in to do things on here if someone pull me in by pm or skype or discord or irc

Plus.... I need to find them and ........*************....... For having them

Heh, welcome back. Those spams are getting silly, I wonder if they're going to be a recurring thing or if the lack of traction will eventually make them wander off. Maybe we should mod the site to have an anti-autofill type captcha? Add a display: none form field that clones the Wordpress "website" field to the post dialog and anything posted with a link to a website is automatically blackholed, or something along those lines.

On my end of things, I'm wrapping up a massive Hypervisor overhaul gone convolutedly messy. (Citrix needs to go out of business and put itself out of everyone's misery) When I finish with this, I am so sitting down and going on an anime binge to catch up on stuff I haven't kept up with, and rewatching some stuff I haven't seen in a while. Short list for catchup is Majo no Tabi and Mahouka Yuutosei, but I'll also probably rewatch some older stuff.

I'm also having fun drawing again, which... I haven't been at that point in a while. Hopefully I can keep riding this back into being able to draw daily. I've gotten better at doing controlled art study from reference, which really helps.

Apologies everyone for not replying recently, I was ill 2 times (different things) and been busy dealing with some other issues, some on FTV and some not. Also apologies for suggesting an anime watch club and then not doing it, if anyone wants to take it over, feel free, I'd rather it go ahead without me rather than let me hold it up.

@warita200 I see you got sick too, hope you are better by now. Love the pictures of your garden, I can see some real work and attention has gone into that, looks great.

@Primula Welcome back :) shall I restore your status now you are back from retirement?

@Norren Good to see you around again, I do keep trying to get you involved in the site but you never answer me in posts lol... Also you mention hypervisor and Citrix, I'm guessing Xenserver? I used to use that a lot and it even used to host some MATV/FTV services long ago. I remember fondly, the time I setup a Xenserver at home all ready in advance, then took it 100 miles to a datacentre in the the evening. Me and my friend expecting a 10 minute job of shove it into the rack and change the IPs, but no, Xensever *really* doesn't like its network changing and some 6 hours later, at 4am tired, hungry, fed-up of the noise and cold of the datacentre, going to a BP garage to get a coffee and chocolate bars as 'dinner' before going home.

To everyone, re the spam: The spam posts should have stopped now, I have banned lots of the new spammer accounts and think I got all the recent ones. I put an email ban in place to stop a certain type of spammer from registering. I also tightened up the spam check settings on registrations, and changed the registration form to now ask for a favourite anime or manga - this shows on their public profile, and now if they are in the moderation queue, we can see if they are a real person or a spammer based on their answer, as spammers tend to just put random items or their name in that box.

If you get any more spam, please report it using the 'report' button on the bottom left of the message.

Mods: If they are a true spammer (as in adverts and not someone making poor quality posts) then use the 'spam clean' tool on them, it will delete ALL of their content and perm ban them in 1 button press. Obviously only do this on real spammers!

Now.. what am I doing? trying to catch up on everything I have missed, answer messages, posts and emails all over the place lol Also trying to sort out the network to make it more secure and easier to manage, also to make some space so I can bring up the FTV dev servers, then update them, and then maybe, hopefully test out some new ideas with anyone/staff from ftv. I also need to move a phone system over to VOIP. I also have a massive amount of junk to sort out, a wood building to sand down and paint, another wood building to repair / rebuild and a possible semi-loft conversion to plan.

Yeah... Sorry about that, I'm not ignoring those or staying away on purpose. ^^;; I'm trying to force myself back in the habit of staying active on everything I'm involved in and mostly failing. orz It's gotten easier at least since moving- I'm not getting anywhere near as much client stuff flying my way to blast my anxiety to the moon every time the phone rings, lol. (still a fair chunk of cling-on/followup work, tho) I keep trying to work up the effort to start writing individual episode reviews again and failing, which is kind of vexing since some of my favorite WNs have been in the adaptation cycle for some seasons now. I'll try to poke in on the front page planning thread later, but most of what I'd mention already came up by the time I saw it.

You guessed right- Xenserver. Went from Xen 6.2 to the open source fork version of 8.2. Had a client that needed to be able to hook up USB devices to a VM, and that feature was only added in 7.x. Don't know how long it's been since you last did XenServer stuff, but Citrix discontinued their free versions and as insult to injury actually deleted any public accessible files related to XenServer from their download server and didn't even note it on their website out of spite- The entire XenServer download section is nothing but 404 links.

That networking change sounds nostalgic. I vaguely remember messing up my network settings in Gentoo way back when I first tried to learn Linux. Fortunately, this install of XenServer was pretty straight forward- The customer's install was one the previous IT guy originally put together, and I eventually had to walk them through doing a clean install of XCP-en 8.2. (and then spent the next 4 days importing appliances from backup) I was tempted to switch them to MS Hyper-V, but opted against it since I didn't have a domain controller there and from limited experience with my in house Hyper-V server, connecting with Hyper-V Manager takes a bunch of weird regedits if you aren't on a DC.

Nice! I didn't get the spam stuff in the quote, but this is some great news.

On the VOIP thing, good luck. I've always found VOIP migrations to be way more complicated than they have a right to be, and usually outsourced it to a (then local) phone guy.

The Junk sorting and Carpentry stuff sounds like a mixed bag. Hopefully those are personal projects and not work projects?

No problem, I know what its like, I keep wanting to do all sorts of things yet a lack of time and/or motivation just seems to kick in and things keep getting put off.

That really sucks, I had actually looked at trying Xenserver again recently, and I think I got a 404 for a link and was thinking that is a bit rubbish, then I remembered the fun times I had before with it, and just decided I can't be bothered with trying it again, I didn't look into it any further. I am not even surprised however, Citrix has always been a bit like that. KVM seems to be the best, although not sure what the best management interface is for it. Proxmox is also quite popular, I have used that and for most part seems good, although it can have issues too.

Back when I had Xen it had some convoluted bridge setup for the interfaces, and changing the IP caused it to go crazy and refuse to work, this was the 'free' Citrix version. I have never tried the open source version. I tried Gentoo once, it was fun for a while, but I soon got a bit tired of re-compiling everything over and over.

I run Hyper-V on Windows 2012 R2, and although I will move away from Windows once that hits end of support, I do actually quite like Hyper-V, it actually runs FTV/MATV's dev servers. I have a standard license, which allows for the Hyper-V server and for 2 more installs as virtuals, so its a nice way to get 3 Windows servers from a single license. I can run any number of virtual machines, subject to hardware performance. I do not have a domain controller, and not even using active directory, it is just being a graphical OS and Hyper-V host. I have not needed to do any regedits, I just RDP into either the hyper visor or any of the virtual machines.

Are you perhaps running the Hyper-V core, the free one with no Windows GUI? and thus why you need the Hyper-V manager on a different host? If so then yes I consider that not worth the hassle, which is why I purchased Windows 2012 R2 Standard. You can get them fairly cheap on eBay, I have even seen data centre licenses which include unlimited Windows virtuals, I think I have seen them sub $200. Make sure it is a genuine and sealed physical microsoft DVD with oem or such license, not some trial or 'student' license, and certainly not any of the 'keys' or 'digital downloads' as those are just pirate scams. If the seller knows the key, its fake.

Well I am sort of cheating, I set it up with just a single phone and new number and it has been running for several months, its had some issues which I had to work out, but It is only a family house phone I am moving so when happy with it I can just port the number over from the landline to the voip. It isn't some huge corp enviroment, although I have worked with those and some have been terrible.
The Junk sorting and Carpentry stuff sounds like a mixed bag. Hopefully those are personal projects and not work projects?
All of these are personal projects, even the tech ones. I left work just prior to the pandemic and stayed off when it hit to look after family. I do consider fully remote roles when recruiters call, but I'm not actively seeking a new role at the moment. I want to wait until there is a suitable level of normality / safety, take the family holiday which was cancelled previously, then go back to work. The tech projects I do for my own interests, and it keeps me upto date. The carpentry I do because it needs doing and we are fed up of hireing people who do the absolute bare minimum job and usually do it badly. i have built basic benches in the past for things, and replaced a door frame. I actually find it somewhat relaxing when taking it slow. And I know when it is done, exactly how well it was done, I know where the not so great bits are and the compromises. When we hire someone, we find out how badly it was done usually when it fails epically and I often look at it and go, why? That would have taken 5 minutes to have done that bit properly, and now I have to do all of it again because water got in and it rotted.
