So in the end they weren't allowed to know that sex makes babies apparently. Also, I think that might of also been the reason why the Doctor had the FranXX setup the way they were just to see if anyone would get it.... maybe. This reminds me of an old quote from an old movie, and it goes, "Life finds a way."
yuri Ikuno FTW! better than usual soap opera weddings, yet as expected 'Papa' didn't let its happiness last any longer... Now out of their haven by ep.18 looks like they'll rebel, ending in tragedy as the new OP hints (hopefully i'm wrong):(

So we're now getting up to Gurren Laggan levels of epic battles here, and to think that Ape was out to destroy the world all along.

yep ep.20 was worth the wait after Dr. Franxx's past, despite another special... i just hope they stop delaying last eps like this, Re:Creators did 4 times

Reread some comments as I return to watching anime.... I think I need to rewatch the last couple of eps before jumping into the next ep.... I left off at 13... glad to hear the show's kept up the improvement... wonder why they chose to start so slow?
Catching up on Toji no Miko... it's gotten better for what it is... tropey, and you can guess the finale.... I think... but nice working of those tropes.
Now I have to catch up on this one and a couple others.

PS.... Ah... I just learned one of my leftovers got cancelled due to production problems.. .how common is that? Marchen Madchen... a magical girl's academy thing, which was alright... not the best, so not a loss, unless some miracle was to occur... which is common in this trope! :D

good thing I dropped MM :/ let me know if TnM or Grandcrest end ok, still yes DFXX improved up to ep.21 plot twist... so its true enemy isn't the loli princess army but 'Papa' as alien invader, lots of Mecha series go outer space after all!;)

Toji ended ok... I wasn't expecting too much more than a glimpse of some esoteric dimensional aspects that showed up at the end... from an esoteric p.o.v., you have to take what you can get... same with all the other magical girls.... I don't see anything like that with the boys/guys.... occassionally, but the feminine aspect seems to show up in these shows in the same format each time... .so it's always a question of how insightful the creator or idea person in the project is... they are usually dealing with tropes of course, but what comes through their intuition? That's what I'm looking for.... remnants mostly... like lost fragments... but it ended ok for what it was.... seems they could do more, but not necessary.

Grandcrest ended a little better, all that 'extra' crap they brought up earlier really wasn't used at the end... which was no loss, rather better that way, as they were inputting too many characters with too many different abilities etc... simply too much, but by the end, it seemed rather straight up as expected from near the beginning... they sure were in a rush early on... it finally slowed down to a normal pace and normal setup/conclusion... end of evil empire situation... which is typical in post imperial ages like our own.... hard to do the John Wayne stuff these days as our western empire is reaching its endpoint... financialization always being the main marker... 'out with the OWO, in with the NWO'... same puppet masters, but no need for their puppets anymore... so they get 'outed', exposed as the whole establishment is setup for culling... same as the rest of the herd.... which gets rather esoteric... All of these projects are using the same 'light' vs 'dark' elements.... the 'dark' ones usually need to be perverted into propaganda to make them more 'presentable' to the herd... if you knew the stuff going on behind closed doors, the puppets wouldn't have been able to do their job of fronting for the oligarchs... which is all that they are doing.... but not needed anymore... .so the perversion of society part of the script is in play... Dems vs Repubs... the Conservatives aren't as easy to manipulate into 'change', so the game has shifted to the liberals, pushing them into near insanity with their 'crybully' tactics... totally not aware of how they are being played by the same groups they are complaining about... it's all so ridiculous... but endtimes always are.... especially the closer to the finale we get.. with Mother Nature approaching.
That said, there were some good aspects to Grandcrest.... like that episode in which the 'queen' or empress gave her 'virgin' body to that 'dark' guy to get him to work for her... given her position... and her p.o.v. etc... and how near the end our MC got her real 'love' interest to go to battle... his style as a 'artist' in battle was interesting... different... creative... reminded me of how in the film 'Chronicles of Riddick', the leader of the imperial forces was seen as 'artistic' in his battle choices... tidbits of interest here and there... nothing special... but you never know what might show up in these anime projects, much more so than our American films which are locked in it seems... our superheroes are mostly idiots, psychos or wannabes... which do indeed express our empire in decline quite accurately.

MM was just another magical girl project that in the first episode was interesting in setup, but mostly ordinary afterwards... except for the shift with them changing their books storylines... self empowerment development that factors into the societal rise of the feminine energy flow as the patriarchial energy dissipates.. .usually in war... as history demonstrates... most people here are pretty much tuned out anyway... so the whole libtard Russiagate thing is a nonstarter that merely points out the obvious idiocy of the OWO puppet show as we watch the old media MSM collapse in fake news/propaganda crap on a regular basis... only idiots paying attention to it... MM wasn't doing much anyway... it might have been going somewhere at the end, but hard to tell.

And this brings me to this Darling in the FranXX... as that was the situation early on... the concept held promise I thought, but the early episodes really didn't... .bland trope use... not much more.... it was kind of hard to hang in there at times until they started to reveal the storyline.. and I think this was a production mistake.... no hints, foretelling, or not enough.... and the trope jokes weren't really funny, but when the production team feels the need to satisfy certain sectors of the market, this is what you get. Only 2 more eps to go... could be mostly more battle scenes with the usual denouement at the end as they start rebuilding... the rains return and fertilize the earth or something like that... they could do a reveal on the past knowledge of the planet ...that would be more interesting... Akashic Records sort of reveal.... or at least the 'lost library of the Sphinx' sort of thing... but probably not... but it has definitely picked up the storytelling, and I do think those early eps were a bad choice in how to tell this story... that could've been much better, given what they've done since.... setting it up with the kids lack of any knowledge at all wasn't done well IMO... I think they'd have to had given us a look behind the scenes as the 'adults' watched them... which we could conjecture to occur, but more was needed.... at least in those early eps until they were sent to that ancient city... the girl finds and keeps that book etc... even the horned girl stuff should've been setup better IMO... and in almost all projects it comes down to the lack of curiousity of the characters... they don't ask questions about anything... .and this could've been shown better with our MC.. a glimpse is all it takes... the idea that he was given a memory 'treatment'.. just a hint to add some 'weirdness' to the storytelling. But it's nice that they muddled through it to this part in the story... I think this is the directors' first project, right? I'm watching that 'special' mentioned above.

i find funny how alike is the advanced origin, before humanity to Maō Dante... of Mazinger Z, Devilman and Cutie·Honey's author ;p so ep'23 a space·opera!

''Deep within a crypt, A coffin opens up'' ''coughing sound'' damn, I should wake up more often.

I sometimes wake up to talk about the beauty that is still Anime.

Although in this series case... Meh...
Darling in the Franxx / Dārin In Za Furankisu / Darlifra / DariFura You know what? Let's stop making 9 versions of a single title.

I wanted to like this series. It had many things I enjoyed: Huge Creatures, Fortress cities, Giant Mecha's, boy and girl couple piloting them, fighting for that which is Earth itself. Kinda sounds like Pacific Rim and Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, Met each other in a bar one day and found out, that they had a lot in common.

Jokes aside. I did find this series to be good. But, I can't see this as a ''unique'' (As how many critics try to label a series every time). Boy and girl couple ending up together, main couple of which both have their special ''traits'' are indeed somehow shockingly ''special'' and a whole lot of other stuff I'm not going to mention as that is spoilers. But the ending... again, not ''unique''.

I can't expect a series to be unique. Many stories are often the same, but re-told in a different way. I can respect that. Which is why, I'll say: that it was a enjoying series to watch either way.

My Rating for Darling in the FranXX: 8,3/10!
Animation: 9/10
Story: 8/10 (It was a good attempt nevertheless)
Characters: 8/10 (A few characters were easily forgotten, some were cliche, others were fun)

Yes... and the exact same statement is said esoterically about existence itself... seemingly endless repetition of thought in form etc....endless expressions of 'Love' (not 'love')... i.e. creation = Love... with the meaning of all life simply being to 'know thyself'...

Yeah, I was hoping for more, but I always am... usually all that is found is tiny little crumbs (on purpose or by the design function).... and so the pattern of expression continues on and on and on... tropes, cliches, etc, is what connects them all.... the archetypes of thought/creation being expressed.

The ending was so full of all those Japanese cliches focusing on the group dynamic... one after the other.... like they were trying to get them all in as they reached some silent crescendo... But the last little scene finally ended it with them returning to form.... of course, this enemy 'out there' really didn't make sense from an esoteric pov... which should've been mentioned by one of the characters... if they are in a state of bliss, why are they forcing all other species to join them? That would be the negative polarity in action, not so blissful for everyone else... <_< ... so that was stupid... but it still ended nice... they wrapped it all up rather well given the material.... even putting our MC into a mental haze was done well, and rather accurate.

I think so many of these stories seem repetitive because our situation as humans here hasn't changed yet.... and the 'rise and fall' of civilizations.. i.e. The Wheel of Life is the same... repeating over and over, ever so slowing does consciousness 'wake up'.... as thought starts in energy and ends in pure thought... completing the circle of existence.... which is pretty much the background of all stories... it's sort of like esoterica in that you have to find the common points in cultures, their 'holy books'... excise the BS, which in some, like our western bible, is pretty much 2/3's of it, and then the congruencies align... truth is found.... different cultures express different aspects of the same picture... it's extremely rare to come across real 'higher' data.... most is just this level or the next and most of it is BS... like all of our 'isms.... capitalism, socialism in all its forms from Marxism to communism and fascism... nationalism and patriotism is always there for the archetypes of 'royalty' to play with... for better or for worse.... given our status of being in 'Purgatory', it is usually for worse... but that is about to start changing within the next decade.. .as the cycle comes full circle.

With all that in mind, I watch these always hoping for more... but aren't we all? no matter our preference in trope or type? I thought it started off very teeny cliche, full of tropey stuff, and that flower sex analogy got old... but it is accurate, so.. ;) ... but the horned girl was the only real interesting thing in all those early eps.... I think this was the writer's first project? Experienced crew... but.... I forget and don't care enough to check it out... but overall it was pretty good... after those early eps were out of the way.... they could've been edited down considerably.... more foreshadowing should've been inserted... and IF the writer or idea person knew more, it could've been in here... but that is so extremely rare.... and when it is, it's usually done in a negative manner... like propaganda... to get the masses to accept what is given to them, like these kids... that simply didn't know better... and that memory erase was used nicely to explain that aspect of why the kids didn't ask questions... explained later... I just think those early eps were weak... as I've said many times.... there was much more here that could've been inserted... but the same can be said of almost all projects, all stories... which is why everyone criticizes them afterword... some of this is cultural... as civilizations rise and fall... the expression of their zeitgeist... little steps every time.... always reaching for greater self awareness... the meaning of life... to know thyself... the creator is the creation... blah, blah, blah... Remember how those 'baby steps' was used in the film 'Contact'? same principle...

Now to find the next one... ^_^ ... and criticize the hell out of it afterwards!.. of course. :D
