With an ecchi pics thread in the general area and there being (I think) two threads about ecchi series, i was just wondering what you think of this subgenre?

Im an: I like it, but only if it doesnt steal the spotlight from the rest of the show, it should at least serve some sort of purpose, although it might depend on the anime. *misses his shrugging smilie* It just seems a bit more realistic than those black holes that the americans draw for women with skirts or dresses.

i like ecchi, but i *hate* it when they abuse it. I've seen the first episode of Ikkitousen, for example.. it has so many boobs and panty shots it's not even funny.

i like subtle ecchi.. when it doesn't get in the way. mai hime has some ecchi, for example (does anyone remember its preview btw?

), but in my opinion when the story became more serious the ecchi disappeared, on comic parts it's there again.. they use it pretty well.

So yeah, me like ecchi but only if used well!

I guess I have to agree. I like ecchi but only when its used correctly. Too much usually gets in the way of the story

grenadier doesn't have much ecchi in my opinion.. i know, the main character has some of the biggest boobs known to man in non-hentai anime, but after a while it's almost like they're not there!

watch an episode of ikkitousen and you'll see the difference. panties, panties, panties, big bouncing boobs, big bouncing boobs, panties, big bouncing boobs...

and now a question i've been feeling like asking for a huge time now: what exactly is fanservice?
smile.gif
i have a notion of what it is, but i want to hear you explain it =P

grenaider is quite a bit of ecchi, close to ikkitousen, green green is another, there are quite a few others, doesn't ai yori aoshi have some as well (or sex or something, cant remember)

anywho, I like ecchi alot

but sometimes I hate it when i think about exactly what im watching, etc, how demeaning and perverted it is X_X

light ecchi is always good though

There isnt much girl fanservice, is there? Mostly fanservice is meant for boys.

indeed TNT. but fanservice sucks anyway. anime nowadays is like tits and panties and cleavage and all that nonsense.

sasha, you can try watching Sukisyo
tongue.gif
im pretty sure you'll like the yaoi stuff

anyway i agree with chibi, there are way too much of fanservice lately.. ecchi is not particularly bad, but im more into shounen and horror anime. they tend to have better plot and character development compared to panties-showing-every-5-minutes type of anime.

since i dont read those, I wouldn't be able to say without checking out myself and im a bit lazy atm to do any such thing XD...

QUOTE (acdc123 @ Feb 15 2005, 06:04 PM) hm im just wondering is Tenjou Tenge ecchi?
....
Sukisho is gay and weird...
TenTen has Ecchi written all over it.

Was just wondering, when is something considered Ecchi? For example, in Mai Hime, Mikoto is constantly hugging Mai, is that Ecchi?
Is there a dif between ecchi and fanservice?

And lastly when is something with men considered fanservice? The way I see it men have the "disadvantage" of not having to many bouncy parts or visible secundary sex parts. You constantly see men in their trunks of tights showing of their definition.

here's my take on TNT's question...

fan service is precisely what the word implies, special "service" for the show's fans (usually panty and boob shots bec the "fans" they pertaining to are boys). but its usually limited to that

ecchi on the other hand is closer to soft porn, and goes well beyond the limits of fan service. if you've seen the ecchi pix thread you'll notice theres nudity already, fan service does not have that kind of skin showing ^__^

with that, makoto hugging mai isnt ecchi. strictly speaking its not fan service either, except probably that time makoto was actually rubbing her face in between mai's cleavage

regarding the poll: im ok w/ ecchi but i can tolerate only so much. like everyone else i already cringe at fan service overrunning the entire story of the show. i still look for teh story, the fan service or ecchi elements are just finge benefits

I just think Ecchi is the most mediocre of all...They dont do the perverted job right...hentai wins in that...and they dont do the good story and good comedy as the normal anime does....

Its just likea crappy story with lame jokes and some pantiues flying around...

Litereally translated Ecchi means "pervert," "indecent," or "lewd",but not in a truly bad way. It's connotation is a bit milder than the stronger (and genuine word for "pervert") hentai. As I understand it; you could call someone an "Ecchi" without (too) much offense
