QUOTE (jul10 @ Oct 01 2006, 07:34 PM) note: I have retireve some anime on the anime section. but, it seems i can't retrieve the info on Ftv awards. I will try again later.
If some people are interested in trying to retreive some of the old posts, Google's cache acn be used. Do a google search for a page on FTV but instead of clicking the link, under it, there is another linked called "cached". It will probably contain the missing information.

We can't copy paste it for all threads, but if you are missing a big post you would like to find again, that is your best chance.

well im glad it was able to be restored

Well, the worst is over, for the moment. If we had to take a moment to apologize to members who were affected by this... we'd bow down to them. Elsewise, we can't actually show you, but this should:

We respect your complaints and hope we won't conflict with something like this again.

There is something wrong with accessing the anime info page. You get a HTTP 404 error whenever you click on any anime link. So you can't download anything yet, right?

EDIT
Hmmmmm, according to the machine statistics, silk, nova and haruhi are reporting problem's. Guess, daft's still working on the problem's.

Oops. I was interrupted during the restoration process with a 3+ hour client meeting. I come back, and the server is being denial of serviced

. Oh well, I guess you just have to take care of things one at a time. The anime links should be fixed now. Thanks for bringing em up.

rise your heads FTV team members. It is we, the otaku moochers of the world that suck the life from this site who should be bowing toward your percerverience to bring up the site back to what it is now. Thank you for your hard work.

I'm only glad that it wasn't a "hack job" that brought it down.

Actually, the down of FTV is because a hack job. Well, the culprit is not known, though.

But, I do agree that daft and FTV teams that involved in restoring the site have done a great job.

There's actually some more bad news and good news about this.

More bad news: The hacker DID manage to gain root access to the system, so a lot of the source code and database data for Fansub.TV was possibly stolen.
sad.gif
Source code wise, it's not too terrible since it was code that I was contemplating about making it open source (available for everyone to download and use) and database wise, it's not too terrible since just about all passwords were encrypted. Though... this means that if the hacker wanted to, he could figure out what's on your watchlist!
ohmy.gif

Good news: The point of entry was determined NOT to be through a security flaw within our systems or code. It was done using social engineering at the datacenter. The hacker was able to persuade the people working there to reset my password and give him the new one.
mad.gif
In compensation for their error, the datacenter has upgraded our webserver for Fansub.TV site + forums have been upgraded to handle more people.
dry.gif

LOL.. I love the way you put it.

"In compensation for their 'error', the datacenter has 'upgraded' our webserver for the Fansub.TV site + forums have been 'upgraded' to 'handle more people'" lol!!!!

but.. that is a plus. I don't mind the hacker watching me. It's not like he's getting free porn.

lol "error"? upgrade? sounds more like some one should be getting fired for this "error" of theirs. Though a hacker that knows social engineering can be deadly, so you cant be too mad at them, I guess.

the world as we know it is going to hell, some iodit actually wasted a few days of his or her time to actually hacked an anime site, was a loser that person is, a sad day indead, i just happy some of threads were restored but induvuial posts over the last 2 days are all gone now!!!!

Hi. Glad to see the website's back up. Though I do have one little problem. I was downloading Higurashi no Naku Koro ni 26 at the time, and it seems to be missing from the website now. I was wondering when that should be back up. Thanks for the great website.

Wow the second hack so far I wonder if it happen again...I hope it wont.
dry.gif

hummm the hacker can figure out what on my watch list....what the point of doing that.
huh.gif

On the side note I deleted something off my sig and it came back and I notice the pms was also affected.
Anyway if this help that hack was on October 1, 2006 between 2-5am...I was up late. It could of been between 12-5 not sure since I was playing a game at that time but I know it was before 5.
btw wittyfox you spell theres wrong it theirs

Here a thought maybe we should make a low quality back up forum just incase this site get hack again and info we need of it we can go to that back up although if this site bounce back up this fast I guess it not needed.

Considering this, I recomment that all members who have moderator access to the forum (mods and semapis) change their password.

The encryption used for passwords is usally not a very strong one. It would be a shame that a mods account be compromise and someone started messing around with the forum.

I am used to this from chat.... our chat was a popular target for hackers. Thanks for the hard work guys, only yesterday did I realize, how much I would miss FTV, if it were to disappear for ever.

I just cannot fathom why one would go so far as to sabatage a major landmark of the Anime community. Why that sounds like a terrorist act to me! Unforgivable in the extreme.

AAAAHHHH! My avatar! And my sig! Woe is me!
