Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei

Agreed, this really is one of those rare horror animes that actually manage to pull it off both psychologically and using gore imagery in certain scenes (nails scene, anyone?). So yeah, no real ecchi material here, but some characters are quite moe if you're into that and... well, if you can look past their psychotic sides.

Anyway, 3rd season is looking good so far (well, not really season, compilation of OVAs) and I can't wait to see what Rika's role is in all of this (there has to be one). Especially if we're going to see some new characters who may disrupt this idyllic world.

Actually I think it's mostly the characters that are supposed to be dead for the curse not dead this time around.

This is pretty much a "what if" the Dam Project was accepted and that the two major families didn't object to the offer that was given.

So for this one I think Rika has to do a last ditch effort and try and save the town somehow even without the help of Keichii.

man and i tought it would be nice. WHen i di watch 1st episode i did think like "yay they made of it a harem comedy intersing it may be good" but now iom kind of dissapointed but oh well

Well the things is Higurashi is mostly a psycho thriller that has its moments in the sun. I mean it has it's relaxing moments, but it also shows that there is always a dark side of things that are never ment to be brought to the light at all though.

Yup !! This series is good explanation that anime can be different from so called cartoon.

Rika-chan seriously can't rest well when she have nothing to do.
smile.gif

After many hell she go through, suddenly all thing go to well. Then she began to question what is significant of her existent. Now if she become like the very first happen of cycle we could see honest innocence of girl that fit in this so called 'everything is fine world'. Her cuteness somehow trick me a lot until I realize her true nature.

Now where Hanyuu go now, I seriously don't have enough look on her.

should i watch this season??
\
I'm not 100% sure if i should take the plunge and see this season. I was perfectly happy with the 1 & 2 season, the first being the craziest one and the second tied everything into a sort of ending (great ending BTW....)
i don't like spoilers but I would like to know if the series has the same feeling, or if it is more like a what if or extended ova to close some of the open threads left by the previous 2 seasons??

Well, it's not really a season since it's an OVA consisting of a few episodes so I wouldn't say it'll take a lot of time to watch. Rei pretty much takes place after Kai, but it's not really an extra closure to Kai since we already got a pretty closed ending there. The main arc in Rei is really more of a twist of fate kind of thing out of the three that will be shown. I like the first two eps that came out so far. There's a good amount of comedy and a decent amount of suspense as of now, so I say it's worth the watch. Too bad the next ep comes out in May...

I've played both versions and I'd say that the PSP version is a decent port. There's some nice extras like the anime OP, new costumes, new weapons, and a new story mode for Hanyuu and Natsumi. The main concern though is that there's something wrong with the targeting for the melee attacks.

i dunno how you all like Rena-chan since i saw her in FTV league..

when i first watch some of the anime from season 1,
until one time one stop..
i just figure it out,
she just a cute tool for killing..
how can they used cute girl for that..

Rena-chan, let stop this right...?? kana? kana?
eh..? what that huge cleaver for..?
waaa... *run*

I seen all episodes, and i must say best anime i have ever seen. Every character has a skeleton they're hiding in a closet...That includes all main characters, and they do overcome the tragedy which is usually caused by the skeletons they were hiding...

Same with Rena, her real name is Reina, she changed her name to start new page of her life in Hinamizawa after her parents divorced. There's a record of her going psycho at her former school and her apologising to Oyashiro-sama. As we all know that was a cause of stress which triggered Hinamizawa syndrome.
tongue.gif

Stress triggers Takano-sans shizophrenia-like behaviour also <talking to granpa, and going completely psycho, like Satoshi once did>

I ADVISE watching series patiently and carefully from beginning or it wouldnt really make any sence..
tongue.gif

I cant wait to see remaining episodes of this arc, i have a feeling that Rika will kill Satoko and then commit suicide at the shrine same way she was killed in the question arcs...Or maybe its my imagination running wild...But that song in the end-feels like its supposed to be a clue on who the killer and victim is...
rolleyes.gif

Well from wah tI can tell it's too soon to call it like that. Although knowing Rika having to be in a world where the dam wars never took place is scary enough. To make matters odd Reina actually did have her psycho moment when she mentioned a murder of the foreman of the dam construction.

So I wouldn't count out Reina out, and Satoshi as well. Since Satoshi is supposed to kill during the year before Keichii is supposed to show. It would be ironic to see Keichii show up at the end of the arc for no apparent reason though.

Although I know exactly how everything happens in this arc..... I'm surprised to ask why hasn't Rika even tried to call Hanyuu yet, especially upon mentioning "Oyashiro-sama"?

Also, if no one has yet noticed....Hanyuu wasn't "real" in the world where Keiichi wasn't around whereas she was in Matsuribayashi-hen back in the second season. Considering this is the epilogue, you would think someone would have wondered what happened to Hanyuu.

True true, and yet Satoshi doesnt seem to have a reason to kill anyone as Satoko is said to like her stepfather... I agree, Reina did have a scary face when the murder was mentioned-she really could kill someone this time.

I have doubts that Keichi will show...Btw, we havent met Shion yet, Shion still can have dislike towards Satoko as she is still clinging to her Nii-Nii and kinda looks more selfish than before.
tongue.gif

Well Rika doesnt seem to be worried that Hanyuu isnt there, she was always more of an observer, Rika seem to be in a lot of shock and maybe she didnt yet notice Hanyuu gone as she WAS always there in sririt form that only Rika saw...
Seems Rika is more concerned about those who are mortal.

All thats left is to wait patiently for third episode.... ^.^
Lol, maybe Hanyuu is the killer???

"In a world without tragedy... She has to find her way back home..."

I'm willing to say that she will have to be the one... who gets the ball rolling. Riku has to totally kill someone here in order for all hell to break loose... or... she can go the route of an earlier chapter and off herself. xD! ... I'd be more of a fan of...

[Riku's standing on a cliff overlooking the river]

"I've done it! ... All of the families here are totally in disarray and I'm the one that exacted this! Keichi... Save this place! Ni...PAaaaahhhh!"

[Riku plunges into the river and the reset button is hit aggressively.]

No... no... I kid, I kid...

There's a better chance that she will do something in order to gauge reaction. Maybe a threatening letter will lead to where this will go. As usual, I'm lost until the next page in the book is read.

ok.. i'll try,
well, i'm not into serious anime to begin with..
it kinda boring to me..
hmpf...
wink.gif

Rena-chan, i summon you...err, without any dangerous item!!
puff!!

Dunno, first 2 season of Higurashi were terrific to me, but I can understand how they can be boring if you come with some huge expectations about "I don't know what". You gotta let it creep on you after the 1st episode (I know I was like... WTH, I thought this was some slice-of-life thing!?
biggrin.gif
).

Well the thing is it starts out as a psycho thriller, then goes into happy fun school time, and near the end of it all it flips back to psycho thriller. Although things get explained at the end of the second season though. Although after Rei is done roumer has it the guy who did this series is doing something similar to Higurashi, but changing the time and setting. Although from what I've heard the idea is similar though.

as a higurashi-fan i had to read through all of your posts to see what other people think about the dice-killing chapter. so i just registered here to write something myself^^

if you didn´t see higurashi + kai + first two eps of rei you shouldn´t open the spoilers
wink.gif

my oppinion is that maybe rika is going insane like keiichi did in the first chapter of season one. i think he imagined most of the scary moments because of his high level of hinamizawa syndrome. so mion and rena maybe said sometimes things for fun, that actually scared him in his state of illness - they never wanted to make him feel that feared...
we all know what happened in the end. maybe this time the same thing happens to rika. the moment rena looks so scary... just imagination?
if you look at it from a neutral point of view, what she says is not scary at all, just like the most things mion and rena told keiichi...

the way hinamizawa is like this in the dice-killing chapter may be a result of the last few minutes of kai. remember the woman talking to miyo... she looked like a grown-up-rika who just wanted to give miyo a happy future after she herself found a world worth living in. i can`t answer how such a rika can go back in time... but it may be possible somehow^^
and because miyo`s parents didn`t die lateron, she had no reason to meet takano-sensei at all. so no takano miyo, which means no plan to kill rika to become oyashiro-sama herself, or whatever her plan was...
it would also explain why the clinic isn`t called irie clinic (which actually was controlled by miyo through irie), but takano clinic, because hifumi was in a way the leading reseacher regarding the hinamizawa syndrom.

why oyashiro-sama`s curse didn`t occure even once... that is a thing i don´t understand myself. maybe we can figure it out sometime

When will the next eps air? Isn't it one per week?

It's an OVA, which means it comes out once every month or two. The next one is released today. After that, the final part to Dice-Killing is released on June 24, 2009, and the final OVA from the Daybreak Chapter is released on August 21, 2009. Blu-Rays follow about one month after the DVD release.
